How to take care of your skin after pregnancy?

When a woman carries a baby under her heart, many changes take place in her body. After the birth of the offspring the skin does not look like before and requires special care – find out what!

During the months when a woman is pregnant, her skin usually looks great, all thanks to increased levels of estrogen. However, when the baby is born, the skin no longer looks its best. It is very delicate, thin and prone to irritation. What’s interesting, even if before pregnancy a woman complained about oily skin – after childbirth it can be dry or even dehydrated. Some ladies, in turn, begin to struggle with acne. In fact, the problems can be many.

Hyperpigmentation – it often appears after childbirth

Very often during pregnancy or right after giving birth to a baby, not very aesthetic discolorations appear on the skin. The cause is, of course, hormonal changes. In the case of some women, the skin evens out its color on its own, and in the case of others – you need to start acting. Special creams available at a pharmacy or drugstore can help. They should contain: vitamin C, glycolic acid, vitamin A derivatives, hydroquinone and azelaic acid. It is also worth choosing a product, which will additionally protect against harmful UV radiation (in case of discoloration it is better to avoid the sun for some time). Regular use should help get rid of the problem after a few weeks. To enhance the effect of these specifics, it is also necessary to perform regular peeling – preferably once a week. There are special scrubs available on the market that help remove hyperpigmentation, but if we do not have access to them, we can use home-made scrubs, for example from coffee grounds

In case of discolouration it is also worth to use skin evening masks. You can buy ready-made masks or make them yourself e.g. from buttermilk and lemon which has lightening properties. It is enough to squeeze juice from half of a lemon and add a glass of buttermilk. Mix all the ingredients and apply on your face for about 25-30 minutes. Then rinse with lukewarm water. After such a treatment, the skin will also be moisturized and smoothed.

What can be done about acne after childbirth?

Women who have given birth very often also struggle with acne. Many of them are surprised, because they rather associate this skin problem with their teenage years. However, we must remember that these two periods in life have one thing in common: a storm of hormones. And it is the storm that causes all the fuss.

When acne appears after childbirth, one should start acting quickly. It is best to reach for cosmetics available at the drugstore, however, if you are breastfeeding, you need to visit a dermatologist, who will tell you what you can and cannot use. Some preparations can penetrate breast milk and harm the baby

It is also worth using completely safe, home remedies, which are often equally effective. Take care to eat a healthy diet, rich in vitamins and minerals. Overeating chocolate and candy bars will not improve the condition of our skin. In addition, you should eat plenty of products with vitamin A, D and E. It is worth to make sure that the daily menu includes a lot of nuts, carrots, pumpkin, soybeans, sunflower seeds and generally vegetables and fruits. Fish is also recommended.

In the fight against postpartum acne, a homemade potato mask can help. You need to boil one, mash it, add a small teaspoon of olive oil and a teaspoon of lemon juice. The whole thing is mixed or blended to a smooth paste and applied to the face. Wash with lukewarm water after about 20 minutes. Use this treatment once a week

Dull, grey complexion

The complexion of young mothers is often gray and dull. It is caused by the effort of childbirth and tiredness, stress and sleeplessness (a new situation and taking care of a newborn require a lot of effort). In this case, a woman should reach for cosmetics, which in their composition have a fruit acid, glycolic and azelaic. It is also necessary to scrub and proper moisturization (in this case, creams with vitamin B5, C and E will work well)
