How should you take care of your intimate hygiene?

You need about 3 min. to read this article.

No one needs to be explained that intimate places are extremely sensitive area, and therefore require special treatment. Especially for women, improper hygiene can affect the health of this area. Often various infections and irritations occur. This is due to the more exposed structure of the reproductive system.

Proper hygiene is essential

Intimate places that are properly cared for are less prone to infections. How to recognize an intimate infection? It is characterised by unpleasant odour, burning, itching and discomfort. Therefore, it is extremely important to choose the right cosmetics for the care of this area.

Take care of the bacterial flora of intimate places

Nature has made sure that our intimate places have a natural protection, which is the bacterial flora. These are microorganisms that are present on our body and protect it from bacteria and are responsible for the proper functioning of the microflora. Disturbance of this balance can lead to infections and great discomfort. Therefore, the basic rule of intimate hygiene is to make sure that the composition of microbiota remains intact.

An excellent way to maintain this balance is to use gentle cleansers designed for intimate areas. Ideally, they should not contain any strong detergents or perfumes. It is worth choosing those products that do not have any smell, and in addition have substances in their composition that have a beneficial effect on bacterial flora. We are talking about lactic acid and probiotics, which are very important for the body. It is worth washing no more than twice a day. Exceptions are during menstruation and in hot weather.

Maintain hygiene in the right way

Not all practices that seem good to us, in reality are so. Frequent, long and hot baths are not good for intimate places. They violate their natural protective barrier.

Definitely better is lukewarm or cool water and shorter, thorough showers. For washing intimate areas, it is best to choose products designed for hygiene of this area. The washing itself should be done with the hands, and not with a washer or sponge, on which bacteria and microorganisms accumulate. You should also be careful that bacteria do not pass between the anus and the vagina. Therefore, it is better to start by washing the vagina and then move on to the anus. Intimate areas should also be wiped with a separate towel that has a skin-friendly material – such as 100 percent cotton.

What practices should I follow on a daily basis?

Underwear should be changed in the morning and at night. It’s a good idea to have panties that are comfortable, not tight, and made of breathable and airy material. Avoid artificial materials that do not allow air to pass through.

For washing underwear it is good to use mild detergents. It is also worth taking care that the pants are looser in the crotch, thanks to which they will not irritate intimate places.

However, during menstruation take care to bathe frequently, change tampons and pads. It is worth buying organic products, without chlorine. Toilet paper is best in the classic version, without color and perfume.

However, at night you should give your intimate places a rest and sleep without underwear. This will also prevent the formation of infections of this area.
